Children of Men
I’ve never really thought of Clive Owen to be a very powerful actor (although I liked his part in Bourne Identity), so this must be an exception. Along with a relatively unknown cast, and some help from Michael Caine, Alfonso Cuarón manufactures a weary and tumultuous Britain with which I can familiarize, even though I’ve never been there. The long takes in the movie were especially effective. The only complaint with it I have is that it emphasizes the ‘mean world syndrome’ more than what was probably necessary.
